New for Fall 2007 exams: Students will upload their exams to PlanetSSI after completing the examination. Please bring a USB Flash drive in case there is a problem with the upload. There should be no other files on the USBA Flash drive.
1. Plan to arrive at the examination room early. Connect your laptop to a power outlet using your power adapter (if you do not have a power adapter, you will not be allowed to take the exam using a laptop).
2. Check your Internet connection. Then wait for additional instructions from the exam proctor.
When the proctor tells you to start the exam, follow the appropriate guide below:
If you experience any problems with your laptop during an exam (laptop freezes, there are error messages, you can't type, etc), you MUST inform the proctor.
The proctor will reboot your laptop. Do not try to reboot your laptop by yourself. After your laptop is rebooted, the proctor will have to enter a password and you should be able to continue your work. All recovery actions will be recorded and printed with your exam. If you try to reboot your laptop without the proctor's help, you will not be able to continue your exam.
If your laptop continues to give you trouble and you cannot use it, the proctor will enter a special code which will save your exam to the hard drive and close the Securexam Student software. You will be given a blue book so you may continue your exam in handwritten form. Your laptop will be taken to the technical staff to retrieve and print the portion of your exam saved to the hard drive. The technical staff will try to give you printed copy of your exam as soon as possible. Please understand that there is no guarantee that the printout will be accessible in the exam time period.
In this case, the printed portion of your exam will be matched to your handwritten portion of the exam by the Registrar.
If the saved exam on the PlanetSSI is corrupt and cannot be printed, the technical staff will contact you and ask you to bring your laptop to the technical staff. Your exam will be retrieved from your hard drive and then printed.
In the case of problems while uploading the qfinished exam to PlanetSSI you must inform proctor and he/she will direct you to the room where technical staff will help you to resolve issue.
If you must save your exam to a USB Flash drive, the drive will be returned to you when your exam is printed, usually the day after the exam. You will be able to pick the drive up at the Circulation desk of the Law Library (have your Exam ID ready). We recommend that you do not keep important files on the USB Flash drive you take on exam day because we can not guarantee that they will not be deleted. The best practice is to backup all the important files from your USB Flash drive and have it formatted before your exams.
